how to change your history of the email addresses you use in outlook also known as the .nk2 file.

NK2 file is the file that gets created and appended to every time you write a new email using outlook. It kind of keeps an history of used email addresses so that makes it easier on the user to find and use an address which had been used in the past. Steps below are how to change or edit these entries to this file.

Correcting Outlook’s Nickname File (.NK2)

One problem with Outlook’s auto completion feature is it accepts what you type. There is no confirmation dialog where you can review your entry. In the example above, I misspelled Hotmail. If I’m not careful and accept the suggestion, I will be sending an email to wrong person. This is a frequent problem for people who don’t create contacts, but prefer to use this file their pseudo address book.

To correct Outlook nickname mistakes,

1. Open an Untitled Message Window in Outlook.

2. Type the first few letters so the bad entry appears on the list.

3. Highlight the item you wish to remove from the auto suggest list. You may need to use your directional keys to move up and down the list.

4. Press your Delete key.

5. Retype the correct entry in the address line and send the email.

When you close Outlook, your bad entry will be removed and your corrected entry will be added.

Posted by admin | MIcrosoft Office Software,tips, issues etc | Thursday 26 August 2010 4:39 pm

# Close all Microsoft Office programs.
# Click on Start button
, then click on Run.
# Type “regedit” (without quotes) in the Run text box, and click OK or press Enter.
# Locate and then click the following subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration

Inside, you will find another subkey that resembles the following subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration\{30120000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}
# Optional: Backup this registry branch by exporting the Registration subkey to a file, just in case the new product key does not work and you have to restore back the old product key. To export the registry, right click on the Registration subkey and click on Export, and follow the on-screen prompt to enter a file name for the registry file and choose a location to store it.
# Under the Registration subkey, there may be several Globally Unique Identifiers (GUID) subkey that contain a combination of alphanumeric characters. Each GUID is specific to a program that is installed on your computer.

If you find additional subkeys that reference Microsoft 12.0 registration, then click and open each GUID subkey to view and identify the Office product version by the ProductName registry entry in the right pane. For example:

ProductName=Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007
# After you find the GUID subkey that contains your Office product or program which you want to remove the existing product license key or registration details, delete the following registry entries by right clicking on the registry entry in the GUID subkey, click Delete, and then click Yes:

• DigitalProductID
• ProductID
# Exit Registry Editor.
# Run or open an Office application program, such as Microsoft Word or Excel or Outlook. Office 2007 will prompt you to enter a new 25-character product key.

After easy transfer restore your outlook profiles/accounts are not there

After easy transfer restore your outlook profiles/accounts are not there. I had reinstalled office 2007 on the new system and restored using easy transfer from old to new computer settings. I was under the impression profiles would be moving. In addition to moving the .pst files you also have to restore the following registry setting. The best way of doing it is to export the setting. On the old computer open regedit.Start-run-type regedit-enter. Then look for this setting: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles. Copy it to a thumbdrive or some kind of portable device then go on the new computer and double click on the reg setting to restore it on the new computer.

You need to ensure you reinstall office first, do not start outlook until after you have migrated your .pst files and the registry setting above.
